The Pool phase of the women's hockey tournament at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico has been completed and the Semi Finalists are known. Defending champions and Pool A winners Argentina will face Pool B runners up Chile in what promises to be fantastic South American derby, while Pool B winners USA will do battle with Canada, the runners up in Pool A.

Argentina recorded a stunning 19-0 victory over Barbados to make it three wins from their three pool matches. An incredible 14 goals were scored from open play in a match which saw Soledad Garcia net four times with hat-tricks going to Luciana Aymar and Carla Rebecchi.

"For most of the girls, it was a great experience to play Argentina", said Barbados coach Elius Fanus. "Our objective was to have a respectable scoreline, but Argentina is Argentina and they are number one in the world."

The win ensured that Argentina took top spot in Pool A, confirming their place in the Semi Finals. They will be joined in the last four by second placed Canada, who defeated Trinidad & Tobago 2-1 on Sunday. Argentina will face Chile, the runners up in Pool B, in their Semi Final meeting on Wednesday 26th October. Canada have the tough task of taking on USA, who were comfortable winners of Pool B. USA recorded wins in all three of their Pool matches, and showed fine goal-scoring form on Sunday when they thrashed Cuba 9-0.

The second round of Pool matches in the men's competition also took place over the weekend.  Canada confirmed their place in the Semi Finals with a 4-0 win over Chile. They will be joined in the last four by either Chile or Trinidad & Tobago, who go head to head on Monday. In Pool A, Argentina and Cuba recorded victories over USA and Mexico respectively to seal places in the Semi Finals. The two sides meet on Monday to decide who will top the Pool, with the winner avoiding Pool A winners Canada.
