Legendary Australia international Alyson Annan has been named as Head Coach of The Netherlands women’s A team. The star player in Ric Charlesworth’s all-conquering Hockeyroos team of the late 1990’s succeeds Ageeth Boomgaardt in the role.

Annan has been living in the Netherlands for many years, and during that time has earned herself a fine coaching reputation. She was Assistant Coach of the Netherlands women’s team that claimed the Silver medal at the Athens 2004 Olympics, working under Head Coach Marc Lammers.

Recently, Annan has enjoyed great success as Assistant Coach of the Amsterdam H&BC men’s team. Working alongside former Dutch international Taco van den Honert, her deep understanding of the game proved to be invaluable as Amsterdam claimed the 2011 Dutch championship. Annan will continue to work with Amsterdam H&BC for the foreseeable future, and is expected to be present with the team when they take part in this weekend’s Euro Hockey League Round 1.2 event in Brasschaat, Belgium.

Alyson Annan is widely regarded as one of the greatest hockey players the world has ever seen. The brilliant striker scored 166 goals in 228 internationals for the Hockeyroos, guiding them to Olympic Gold Medals in both 1996 and 2000. She was named the FIH Player of the year on two occasions, winning the prize in 1998 and 2000.

The Netherlands A team will be in action next Easter (2012) during a four nations tournament.
