Marijke Fleuren was elected the new president of the European Hockey Federation (EHF). The term for the EHF president is four years, during which time she will also be a member of the FIH Executive Board as the European Federation representative.
Fleuren, a native of the Netherlands and current Adjunct Directeur of the KNHB, takes over the presidency from England's Martin Gothridge, who announced he was stepping down from the post earlier this year.
"I am happy and grateful for the trust in me and will face this new challenge with all the energy I have and the experience I have acquired in the Netherlands," said Fleuren, who previously held the post of EHF Vice President.
Fleuren beat Stephan Abel, the current president of the German Hockey Association (DHB) by four votes. Abel is also a member of the FIH Executive Board and will maintain his position on the Board as a member that was re-elected at the FIH Congress in Montreux last November.
Fleuren is also a current member of the FIH Competitions and Appointments Committees.
