England Hockey: England Under 21 women’s coach, Karen Brown, has announced her squad for next month’s BDO Hockey Junior World Cup in Chile.

The squad will travel to Santiago on 8 September for the event which starts on 14 September.

“It was extremely difficult to make the final choice which is a credit to everyone who has been involved in the programme over the last six months,” Brown said.

“We believe this is a talented group of athletes who will be competitive at the Junior World Cup and beyond.”

The Under 21s have recently returned from a trip to the Netherlands where they played the number one seeds for the tournament in Santiago three times in four days.

“Whilst the Dutch won all three matches, seven of the Dutch goals came from penalty corners and all England’s were field goals, demonstrating that if we can improve in the important area of set piece play we could do well at the tournament,” Brown said.

The squad will be captained by 21-year-old Hannah Macleod of Leicester HC and has a good balance of youth and experience, with seven players having already made their senior England debuts.
