Against a largely experimental Scottish team Ireland got to put right their one nil loss against Scotland yesterday, when they put six past the home side.

After three back to back matches coach Muller was pleased with the weekend “We played with intensity and good technical execution today, we combined well to score some great team goals. This tournament was a fantastic lead into the Champions Challenge 1 which is taking place in Dublin at the end of the month.”

Five of Irelands goals came from play, including a hat-trick from Jean McDonnell who was rested yesterday but she certainly took the opportunity to shine today with her finishing touches.

Ireland dominated for the entire match and keeper Pamela Smithwick was only called into action on two occasions to keep a clean sheet.

Ireland’s first two goals came in the first quarter, the first when McDonnell received the ball in the circle and deftly scooped it over the keeper. McDonnell didn’t take long to double her country’s lead when just minutes later some very fine play resulted in an excellent pass from Watkins to set McDonnell who made no mistake. Emma Smyth put Ireland three ahead just before halftime when she picked up McDonnell’s strike which was initially saved by the post.

McDonnell didn’t take long to get her hat-trick scoring in the 40th minute after good approach work from Audrey O’Flynn and Emma Smyth. Within three minutes Michelle Harvey put away the only goal from a penalty corner with her trademark low drag flick to make it five nil. Captain Alex Speers also got in on the action to score the sixth and final goal finishing off a great build up from the defence.
