Dutch striker Ellen Hoog broke her ankle on Wednesday in a game between her Amsterdam club and Rotterdam. She is expected to be sidelined for about 4-6 weeks.

Hoog has been a regular player for the national team since after the Athens Olympics, and won her first gold medal at the 2004 Champions Trophy. She has since won another Champions Trophy title in 2005, gold at the 2008 Olympics, the 2006 World Cup and 2005 and 2009 European Nations Championships.

Hoog broke her ankle about 10 minutes into the second half after a collision with an opponent. Amsterdam went onto to win the game, 4-0, and is also a lock for the upcoming Dutch playoffs. Hoog is not 100 percent certain that she will be back in time for the playoffs when they being on May 21. She has said should she not be ready for the Dutch playoffs, she would make the Champions Trophy he next goal. Her club team, Amsterdam is hosting the 2011 Rabo FIH Champions Trophy, giving Hoog extra incentive to get back to 100 percent by the event, scheduled to begin in late June.
