Dutch international Nick Meijer has decided that he can no longer make himself available for the selection for the National Team due to the demands of his studies.
Netherlands coach Paul van Ass recently named Meijer in the provisional squad for the 2011 Euro Hockey Nations Championship 2011, which will be played in Mönchengladbach between 20th and 28th August this year.
"Nick cannot combine the intensive period up to and including the Olympic Games in London 2012 with his studies”, said Van Ass. “He has talked with his Dean and has had decide to let go of the chance of London. Naturally I regret that but I certainly understand the choice that Nick has made."
Meijer made his international debut on 14 July 2003 against Spain, going on to play 37 times for his country and netting seven goals. The HC Bloemendaal star played in three Champions Trophy tournaments (2003, 2004 and 2006) and twice in the European championship (2003 and 2005).
