The England Hockey Board (EHB) is delighted to have been nominated for Governing Body of the Year in Sportscoach UK’s (scUK) 2010 UK Coaching Awards.

The EHB is one of three shortlisted bodies, having been named alongside Golf: GB & Ireland Coaching Framework and Rugby Football League.  The winner will be announced next week at the Brewery London on Tuesday 30 November 2010.

Recognised as a ‘trailblazer’ sport, the EHB has developed its coaching system strongly in recent years and is particularly proud of the integration of coaching into all other areas of the EHB and the hockey environment.  This integration can be seen in the clear coaching pathway which links to the Single System player development pathway and the introduction of Centrally Contracted Coach Educators delivering coach education throughout the hockey environment.  Having embraced new technology, the EHB is excited about the imminent launch of an interactive coaching DVD and the close working relationships it enjoys with the other British hockey home nations (Scotland and Wales) to develop a clear Coaching Strategy for Great Britain.

At the top level, the EHB’s approach has contributed to recent podium successes, including the England Hockey women’s triumvirate of bronze medal wins this summer, the England Hockey men’s Champions Trophy silver medal and podium positions achieved by the U21 men and women, the U18 girls and the U16 boys.

Coaching success has not been solely been confined to the elite level either.  The EHB now provides advice and guidance to other sports seeking help in their own development and has seen recognition of its grassroots and performance coaches at elite and national coaching levels.
