The Koninklijke Nederlandse Hockey Bond (KNHB) has appointed Max Caldas as the new coach of the Dutch women's team.

During a press conference on Tuesday 23rd November 2010, KNHB Technical Director Bert Bunnik explained the decision.

"We were looking for an ambitious professional with a proven track record", said Mr Bunnik. " He is a person to whom the term 'decisive coaching leader' applies, and also has excellent communication skills. He is someone who is able to change style of behavior and effectively act in different and changing situations both on and off the field. He is a coach who knows how to achieve optimal performance."

Caldas is currently head coach of the men's 1st team at H.C. Bloemendaal, where he has had considerable success winning the league title in both 2009 and 2010 as well as the Euro Hockey League in 2009.
Caldas was also involved with The Netherlands Junior men's team which became European champions in Poland earlier this year.

Caldas has had previous experience with The Netherlands women, holding the position of assistant coach to Marc Lammers during the World Cup in 2006 and the Olympic Games in 2008. The Netherlands won gold in both tournaments.

"I feel really Dutch and am very happy and proud that I go the Dutch women's team coach", said former Argentina international Caldas. "I consider it a great honor that the hockey association has chosen me."

Max Caldas will remain as the coach of HC Bloemendaal until the winter, and will soon begin his selection and preparation program for the 2011 Rabobank Champions Trophy in Amstelveen.
