A 3-0 loss to the Malaysian Men has left the Black Sticks Men with plenty to think about as they go into the Commonwealth Games.
In the second test match against Malaysia, the Black Sticks made a reasonable start to the match, but as the game progressed the error rate increased and the game lost its flow.
New Zealand made a reasonable start in the hot and humid conditions and looked the most likely to score in the early stages of the game.
However, Malaysia were quick to counter attack when errors were made and scored just before the break with a well struck shot, high in the net from the right inside lane.
From the first penalty corner awarded to Malaysia early in the second half, the flick at goal deflected off the New Zealand runner Shea McAleese and Malaysia went two nil ahead.
The Black Sticks tried to lift the tempo of the match but the constant loss of possession allowed Malaysia to control the final twenty minutes.
Malaysia added a third goal with eight minutes to go, to secure a 3 – 0 victory.
The Black Sticks play a friendly game against the Malaysian Junior Men's team tonight (NZT) before heading to Delhi on Thursday.
