2010 has already been a memorable year for the Kookaburras. After winning the 2009 ABN AMRO FIH Champions Trophy in Melbourne late last year, the Kookaburras haven’t missed a beat since, winning their first World Cup title in 24 years at the 2010 Hero Honda FIH World Cup in India.

 

Their recent ABN AMRO FIH Champions Trophy victory, their third Champions Trophy title in a row, has solidified their status as the best hockey team in the world. They will be given a further chance to show their skill at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, however must first overcome Argentina in a two leg series in Perth and Sydney starting on Saturday 4 September 2010.

 

The Kookaburras have a strong history over Argentina, having won 26 times on the 35 occasions the teams have met. However their last match at the 2008 WorldHockey Champions Trophy saw Argentina record a 2-1 upset, demonstrating that they cannot be underestimated.

 

For the fans, this will be their first chance to see the Kookaburras play on home soil since their victories at the Hero Honda FIH World Cup and ABN AMRO Champions Trophy. And their last chance to support the team before they head of to the Commonwealth Games, were they will be aiming to win their 4th straight gold medal.
