Welsh Hockey Union Officials are banking on a significant upturn in junior hockey provision thanks to HSBC Bank PLC and the Sports Council for Wales.
The Welsh Hockey Union has secured a three year sponsorship deal (£5000 per annum) with HSBC Bank PLC, which has been matched in its first year by the Sports Council for Wales’s Sportsmatch Cymru scheme, resulting in a cash influx worth over £7800 in year one.
The deal provides the Welsh Hockey Union with the financial resources to develop a Skills Award project for delivery in its 120 affiliated clubs and 200+ affiliated secondary schools. The HSBC Bronze, Silver and Gold Award resources will be available to all qualified Coaches and Teachers through a password protected section of Welsh Hockey’s website.
“We are delighted to have secured a partnership with HSBC and Sportsmatch that will enable our qualified teachers and coaches to have access to a resource that will enable them to make the game more appealing and exciting to children, whilst enhancing skills and the quality of play,” Mike Bull, Chief Executive of the Welsh Hockey Union, said.
“We anticipate that the HSBC Bronze Skills Award will be launched in September 2005 and the Silver and Gold awards soon after”.
Sportsmatch Cymru is an Assembly-funded, £ for £ business incentive scheme, aimed at commercial sponsorship into grass roots sport.
