The Vaisakhi International Hockey tournament saw Kenya police and Telkom hockey clubs winning the men's and women's titles.
Kenya Police were comprehensive and swift in their execution to hammer Green Sharks 5-0 to lift the title at the City park hockey stadium in Nairobi. Police exorcised the demons that had bedeviled them over the years to lead 1-0 at intervals before tearing sharks to shreds with excellent display.
Moses Cheplaiti and James Munyi weaved through defenceless sharks to strike home a double each with Vincent Otieno completing the rout. In the women’s final Telkom ladies club required Jackline Mwangi’s golden goal in extra time to edge out a determined Sliders 4-3.
The eight day tournament attracted 13 teams which included 9 men’s of which two were foreign from Pakistan and Ghana while 4 were ladies. The tournament will be annual.
