Due to an injury picked up in training on Sunday, England Hockey’s Surbiton forward Matt Daly has withdrawn from the England men’s squad ahead of the Hero Honda FIH World Cup.

The squad is currently training at its pre-World Cup preparation camp in Doha, Qatar, where Daly picked up the grade two hamstring tear; an injury that is likely to keep the 26 year old out for between six and eight weeks.

England’s Head Coach Jason Lee said, 'Getting injured this close to a World Cup is a major blow for any sportsman.  I feel for Matt.  I am pleased with the support shown to him by the rest of the group.  Although this is a setback to the group, we are fortunate that the injury is to a forward where we have cover.'

As a result of Daly’s injury, his club teammate James Tindall and Reading’s Simon Mantell will both take part in the World Cup.  The pair had been competing for the final place in the squad after recovering from broken foot injuries.
