Scottish Hockey Union: Scotland’s senior women will be heading to Paris next weekend to play three Tests against France. After recent matches with local rivals England and cross-channel neighbours the Netherlands, the series continues their international program leading up to the European Nations Cup in Dublin.
The travelling squad has yet to be finalised as the Coaching team are still assessing their injury situations. Particular attention will be focused on quad injuries sustained by Catriona Semple and Louise Carroll but a training camp at Peffermill this weekend will allow the injured players to test their strengths and will permit final selection.
"A two-week break for the squad has allowed a number of players to freshen up and these matches will be an opportunity for some of the squad members to push forward for selections into the European Nations team,” manager Brent Deans said.
The squad, supported by the Scottish Institute of Sport, will be looking to build on the experience gained from their recent matches against England and The Netherlands and will be hoping to maintain the intensity and the pace of the game that they’ve been displaying.
The matches will give considerable insight into a French squad that Scotland will face, at home, in the upcoming Celtic Cup. Coach Lesley Hobley suggests that France, ranked 19th in comparison to Scotland’s 17th ranking, will pose some different problems but will give the squad an opportunity to ensure all positions are covered.
There is also the chance that the teams may face one another once more in neutral territory in Dublin, so this is Scotland’s chance to tackle their opponents whilst France have the Home advantage.
