Head coach Pablo Usoz has announced a list of 22 players who will get together in Terrassa from 29 September to 4 October to prepare for the Champions Challenge which will take place in South Africa from 11 to 18 October. At the camp, the incorporation of several players who will fight to win a place on the team that travels to South Africa sticks out.
"Some of the players who participated in the European Championships will not participate in the Champions Challenge, but instead some U21 players will. It is a good moment to try them out and introduce them to the team. Furthermore, the new incorporations as well as the players who already are a part of the national team will form a group of 22 or 24 players, to which some more may be added during the season, which will constitute the base to prepare for the World Cup in Argentina in September 2010", explains head coach Pablo Usoz.
As Usoz himself acknowledges, the incorporations do not lessen the team's potential, and the goal remains to win in South Africa in order to be promoted to the Champions Trophy for next season, the competition that brings together the six best teams in the world: "We have our trump cards, and we are going there to win it", says the coach.
Azerbaijan, Chile, Italy, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, South Africa and Spain participate in the Champions Challenge.
From the list of 22 players, 18 will be selected to travel to South Africa. In Terrassa, 3 friendly matches will be played against Australia.
