Colorado Springs, Colo.— The USA Field Hockey national indoor teams open their 2005 schedules in Canada and Austria with the U.S. men competing in a tournament in Toronto and the U.S. women set for a series of games in Vienna.

The two international events represent part of the USA team's preparations for the Indoor Pan American Cup in late 2005 or early 2006. The Pan Am event will serve as a qualifier for the 2nd Indoor World Cup scheduled for 2007 in Vienna. The top two teams from the Pan Am Cup are expected to qualify for the 12-team Indoor World Cup

Coached by former Canada assistant coach Bobby Alexander, the USA indoor men will see action against some of Canada's top club teams in the Canadian Indoor Invitational Tournament in Toronto, Feb. 11-13. The team will use the event to pare down its roster from 18 members to a squad of 15.

Members of the men's squad include Jeremy Cook (Philadelphia, Pa.), Nathan Coolidge (Sandwich, Mass.), Pat Cota (Ann Arbor, Mich.), Steve Danielson (San Diego, Calif.), Brett Dunn (Fairfax, Va.), Erik Enters (Harleysville, Pa.), Rick Harner (Hanover, Pa.), Peter Jones (Stamford, Conn.), Jesse Larson (Westminster, Md.), Jose Molina (Easthampton, Mass.), Evan Munsing (Wyomissing, Pa.), Greg Nathan (Del Mar, Calif.), Chris Pothier (Forestdale, Mass.), Gus Reed (Wainscott, N.Y.),  Ian Scally (Thousand Oaks, Calif.), Milan Tyburec (New York, N.Y.) and Don Warner (Richmond, Va.).

The team will continue its 2005 schedule in March with a five game series against Canada.

On the women's side, the USA will embark on an eight-game tour in Vienna against top regional club teams. Coach Scott Smith's squad includes 1988 USA Olympic goalkeeper Donna Chung (Canton, Mass.), 2002 World Cup team member Jill Dedman (Orange, Conn.), 2001-02 Northeastern Univ. All-American Sarah Broderick (Harwich, Mass.), indoor squad veteran Sandra Cook (Festerville, Pa.),  former Univ. of Connecticut  all-region selection Meredith Kirkpatrick (Cambridge, Mass.), former Duke Univ. standout Kim Susko (Somerville, Mass.), 1983 West Chester All-American Debbie Phillips (West Chester, Pa.), Tufts Univ. head coach Tina McDavitt (Boston, Mass.), former USA national team member and Ohio Univ. All-American Lauren Mazziotto (Sewell, N.J.),  former Boson Univ. All-America East selection Jen Nixon-Mathis (Dorchester, Mass.) and Drexel Univ. head coach Denise Zelenak (Wilmington, Del.).

The  USA women went 8-2 in a similar tour to England and Scotland in 2004.
