World Grand Masters World CupThe biennial World Grand Masters Hockey World Cup took place in Hong Kong from 12-21 September 2008. The event, organized by the World Grand Masters Association (WGMA) for players of age 60 and over, was held at the Hong Kong Football Club.
The local hockey experts were impressed by the high quality of hockey played, and the Grand Masters final between England and Australia proved to be a very entertaining match played at a fast pace, considering that this was their 7th game in 9 days in the Hong Kong heat. The high standard of the organization and the friendliness of all the organizers made this an unforgettable tournament which will be difficult to surpass in the future.
The tournament participants were:
Grand Masters (60+) – 9 teams:
England, Germany, Netherlands, Australia, Scotland, Italy, Japan, Hong Kong and South Africa.
Winners: Gold – England, Silver - Australia, Bronze – Germany.
Great Grand Masters (65+) – 6 teams:
England, Germany, Australia, Scotland, Japan and Australia 70s
Winners: Gold – Australia, Silver – England, Bronze – Germany.
Tournament Trophy – 4 teams:
England LX, Germany B, Alliance1, Alliance 2.
Winners: Gold : England LX, Silver – Germany B, Bronze – Alliance 2.
