The International Hockey Federation (FIH) is pleased to announce that following recent meetings with the Sports Department of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the IOC has advised its agreement in principle for the use of transferable “P” accreditations.
Subject to final confirmation by the IOC, this means that in addition to the 16 players officially nominated for the Olympics, each participating team will be allowed to select a maximum of two alternate players per team ('P' Accredited athletes). The purpose of selecting the alternate players is, in principle, to have them available should one or more of the 16 officially nominated players sustain an injury once the competition has started.
Due to the complexity of changing the system at this late stage, the IOC will need some more time to finalize all details.
