Only the best hockey players of the world are selected for the WorldHockey All Star Teams. After the major success in 2006, the nomination of the WorldHockey All Star Teams for men and women is taking place for the second time this year. Visitors to the official website of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) www.worldhockey.org were firstly able to vote for their favorite women players.
After counting the hundreds of votes, the FIH is pleased to announce the 2007 Women’s WorldHockey All Star Team. This formation of world class Hockey players is composed of 18 players and two coaches.
Netherlands is represented with four players in the 2007 Women’s WorldHockey All Star Team. WorldHockey Player of the Year 2006 Minke Booij, as well as Janneke Schopman and the nominees for the 2007 Player of the Year (POY) and Young Player of the Year (YPOY) award Marilyn Agliotti and Maartje Goderie represent the World Champion in the All Star Team.
Olympic and European Champion Germany is present with Tina Bachmann and the nominated Fanny Rinne (POY) and Maike Stoeckel (YPOY). Further Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year nominees and members of the All Star Team 2007 are Chinese Ma Yibo, Japanese Kaori Chiba and the Australians Peta Gallagher and Madonna Blyth.
Other stars in the 2007 Women’s WorldHockey All Star Team are three times WorldHockey Player of the Year Luciana Aymar from Argentina, Samsung World Cup 2006 Best Goal Keeper Award holder Amy Tran from the USA and Korean’s Young Player of the Year 2006 Mi Hyan Park. Goalkeeper Maria Jesús Rosa Durán (ESP), midfielder Marsha Marescia (RSA) and the defenders Magdalena Aicega (ARG) and Crista Cullen (ENG) complete this ‘super squad’.
Dutch Marc Lammers and German Michael Behrmann are the coaches of this formation. Captain of the team is Luciana Aymar. In the 2007 Women’s WorldHockey All Star Team, eleven countries are present: Netherlands, Australia, Argentina, Spain, Japan, USA, England, Germany, South Africa, China and Korea.
The voting for the men’s All Star Team starts on Wednesday 28 November and the result will be published after the end of the Champions Trophy in Kuala Lumpur.
