New Straits Times: The Malaysian Juniors earned their stripes when they came back from a goal down to beat England 3-2 in the Six-Nation Invitational at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil yesterday.

Goalkeeper Khairul Nizam let in two soft goals, but the forward line clicked well to give Malaysia a deserved win. Malaysia started with butterflies in their bellies, and even allowed England to score a soft goal in the 14th minute.

It was a goal mouth melee, and when the balled rolled towards the goal line, even goalkeeper Khairul Nizam stood rooted. There was confusion on who scored, and at last the credit went to Rob Pryce.

The sloppy men in yellow turned into matured players and pressured the English goal mouth, and in the 20th minute, won the second penalty corner.

Mohamed Suffian sent in a low ball to beat towering England goalkeeper James Gollan.

Back into the match with a vengeance, the forwards started to gain confidence, and a one-two by S. Selvaraju and Tengku Ahmad Tajuddin got Malaysia the lead in the 28th minute.

Tengku Ahmad had the choice of either passing back to Selvaraju or making an attempt at goal - and he chose the latter and pushed in the ball low into a small crevice between the goalkeeper Gollan and the post.

In the second half, Malaysia pushed forward harder and were rewarded with a penalty corner in the 45th minute, and again, Suffian pushed low - and Malaysia were 3-1 up.

But instead of punishing the English, Malaysia missed a few sitters and allowed the English back into the game in the 53rd minute.

It was another soft goal, and goalkeeper Khairul was to blame for it as he let Pryce's top-of-the-semicircle attempt to practically roll past him.

The score stood at 3-2 in favour of Malaysia, but the English were the dominant side and ran riot in the last 10 minutes of the match.

Malaysian players threw all their might behind the ball, and sealed the three points with some gritty display.

In the other match, Pakistan romped away with a 5-2 win over Korea to keep their sight on the final.

Unlike when they drew 0-0 with Malaysia, the Pakistanis had more drive yesterday and got their first in the ninth minute off an Akhtar Mohamed field goal. South Korea equalised off Yeo Chang Yong a minute later and indicated that they are not ready to give up.

But Pakistan took the lead again off Imran Warsi from the penalty spot in the 20th minute and right after the restart, Akhtar made it 3-1.

Korea narrowed the gap to 3-2 with a 45th minute penalty corner off Hong Seng Kweon but that was as far as they went.

Pakistan went on a rampage and scored two more off Imran (49th, 52nd) and the match was all over.
