Match Review

Australia – United States 4-1 (4-1 halftime)

Australia became the second top-seeded preliminary round team to make their way to the Investec World League tournament semi-final game. Thanks to a clear 4-1 win against four-seeded USA, Australia is guaranteed a top-four finish in the event.

Australia did most of its damage in their four-goal first half performance as the completely dominated the Americans. USA netted just one goal, a penalty corner marker from Rachael Dawson, but it would be one of the few times the Americans threatened the Australian net as the Hockeyroos were simply too strong today.

Emily Smith opened the scoring seven minutes into action, which Dawson had the answer to three minutes later. It would be the only time that the Hockeyroos would sweat the outcome during the match as they quickly retaliated with three unanswered goals to pull well ahead. Kellie White scored the go-ahead goal two minutes after the Dawson strike and from there Australia never looked back. A pair of penalty corner flicks three minutes apart from Karri McMahon and Jodie Schulz upped the lead to 4-1.

Despite many chances to do more damage, the Australians were content with the 4-1 lead and score
