Australia – England 1-1 (0-1 halftime)
In a meeting of the unbeaten teams in Group B at the Investec Hockey World League Semi-Final, both host England and Australia can still hold their heads high without a loss after duking it out in a 1-1 draw.
It was a fair final result for both sides as it was a nose-to-nose battle in the extremely evenly-matched meeting. Australia held the slight edge in possession and most of other statistical categories on paper, but England played with a bit more flair, including an incredible second-half save by goaltender Maddie Hinch in the opening half that will surely be making the highlight reels for some time to come.
England took the lead with 10 minutes left in the first half when Hollie Webb was in perfect position to shoot in a long rebound after a penalty corner flick. It would be the only offense from either team for nearly 50 minutes in the back-and-forth duel.
Australia pulled even in the 60th minute when Jodie Schulz scored on a penalty corner chance taking advantage of a slight ebb in the English attack.
Australia put some pressure on the English net towards the end of the game, but Hunch and defense stood their ground and hung on for the 1-1 draw.
England and Australia are still atop the standings in the group, although the Hockeyroos have the slight edge with a better goal difference.
