A five-star second half performance from Oman saw them end their men’s Hero Hockey World League Round Two 2013 campaign on a high, recovering well from a half-time deficit against Fiji.
In a thrilling opening four minutes, the Fijians moved 2-1 up as Hector Smith and James Saqacala hit the mark with Samir Haliyas Al Shibli getting the response.
It got even better for them when Leevan Dutta roofed a spectacular individual goal, ensuring they would have their first half-time lead of the campaign. But Ahmed Sabeel Al Balushi’s corner rebound reduced the deficit to the minimum at the interval, 3-2.
And Oman powered forward in the second half. They netted twice within a 100 seconds to turn the tie around, Mahmood Salim Al Hasani and Al Balushi scoring for 4-3. Mohamed Hubais Al Shar scored his fourth goal of the week from the penalty spot and two goals in the final few minutes confirmed their place as fifth place finishers with Fiji in sixth.
