India made no mistakes as their experience and all-round ability gave Fiji’s inexperienced crew a tough lesson. The hosts started in imperious fashion, rattling home five first half penalty corners with VR Raghunath leading the way to set up a large 7-0 lead at half-time and they scarcely slowed down in the second period. Adrian Lal did find the net for Fiji but his effort was ruled out for an earlier infringement while a penalty corner shot went wide from their fleeting chance. But India were unstoppable in their quest for a sweet 16 to start their tournament on the right note with Danish Mujtaba grabbing a hat trick.
