Going Underground

The Stratford entrance to Olympic Park before the morning rush.
As anyone who follows the Olympics well knows, transportation was expected to be a big challenge during the Games. After experimenting with the different methods to get to and from the Olympic Park, for this writer the London Underground is the best and most amusing experience.

The Tube itself is a festival of people watching -- especially on the Central Line that runs to the Olympic Park entrance. During a Monday morning rush hour, you have normal workers going to their jobs eying the heavy-eyed volunteers going in for the early shift in their purple shirts (who, by the way are automatically asked for directions as soon as they don their purple polos). On top of that you have the excited fans with their tickets and the normal festivities that you see on any public transportation.

But the fun is only beginning during the 20 minute Tube ride. When you get off the Tube and head to the Olympic Park, you are greeted by enough signage to be seen from the Space Station, enough people with bullhorns to rival a Metallica concert and enough people taking photos to top any major tourist attraction.

From the station, its another festive 20 minutes of walking and people watching before you are greeted by the sign 'Welcome to Riverbank' Arena'. All putting you in the Olympic spirit and ready for action.

What can be a better way to start the day?
