It All Adds Up

It’s no secret that the Olympics are biggest sporting event in the World. But just how big are the London Games? Wrap your head around some of the following projected figures for London:

5 Million attendees anticipated
• 260,000 visitors at the Main Stadiums
• 70,000 Press/Media in attendance (Accredited)
• 78% of spectators likely to travel from within London
• 28 Days of Olympic and Paralympic competitions
• 26 Olympic Sports, 20 Paralympic Sports
• 36 Venues
• 17,800 athletes
• 4,200 technical officials, 9,300 team officials
• 205 countries represented (147 Paralympics)
• 70,000 volunteers

In terms of hockey, we are just one piece of the big puzzle, but an impressive one nonetheless. Hockey will have 384 athletes on 24 teams from different 15 nations playing in 76 matches over 14 competition days for 5,320 minutes of hockey action (extra time not included) with six medals awarded on August 10 and 11.

  • O Canada (With Glowing Hearts) 1979 national anthem film

    One of the most beloved renditions of the Canadian national anthem "O Canada" committed to film, "With Glowing Hearts" (the actual film title) was wonderfully edited together from existing National Film Board footage and first seen in 1979. In addition to being utilized by television stations across the country for sign-off messages the film was also shown theatrically; as originally posted on my first account.
