Two new Faces

Santiago Freixa stands on the sideline with his broken arm in a sling.
Maybe it's because there are so many teams in London, but it seems that in the first few days of the tournament, there have been a lot of injuries. But with 18 matches already played, perhaps it's not above normal.

Either way two hockey players' Olympic journey has come to an end. Today the FIH approved replacement players for Spain's Santiago Freixa and South Africa's Marvin Harper. Freixa will be replaced by Andres Mir, while Clinton Panther is stepping in for Marvin Harper.

As background, before the Olympics started, teams named a list of 16 players and two alternates. The two alternates may only be put onto the forma team list after an FIH physician has agreed that an injury sustained during the Olympics is serious enough that the player can no longer participate.

Sadly for Freixa and Harper, this was the case. Let's hope it's the last that we will hear of replacement players for the duration of the games.
